Anne M. Griffiths, age 75, of Janesville died in the early morning of March 24, 2015 at her home from an aggressive form of cancer. She was born in Cleveland, OH on December 13, 1939, to George and Phyllis Herzberg McCuskey. The family lived in Cleveland, then Hudson, OH, then Poland, OH. She graduated from Poland Seminary High School, class of 1957. She earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Denison University in Granville, OH in 1961 and an M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Michigan in 1962.
On November 3, 1962 she married David W. Griffiths in Granville, OH. They lived in Akron, OH and Cuyahoga Falls, OH until moving to Janesville in 1969. During the time in OH, Anne was a research chemist at the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Chemical Division in Barberton, OH.
In 1979 David and Anne became part owners of Autopoint, Inc. and moved the company to Janesville. From 1989 to December 31, 2013 when it was sold to a new owner they were co-owners and Anne was the bookkeeper.
Anne had a passion for music and served on the Boards of the Janesville Concert Assn., the Beloit-Janesville Symphony and its Friends support group, being President of all three at various times. She was named a Woman of Distinction by the YWCA for her music involvement. She was also active in her church, First Congregational UCC playing in the handbell choir and visiting shut-ins.
She loved her husband of over 52 years and her children and grandchildren and extended family. She is survived by her husband, Dave, her daughter and family in Denver, CO, Susan (Michael) Franklin, Evan and Sadie, her son and family in Claremont, CA, Charles (Katherine) and Charlotte, her son and family in Columbus, OH, Robert (Rachel) and Wilson, her mother in Naples, FL, Phyllis McCuskey Chaney and her sister Margie M. Sargent in San Francisco, CA. She was predeceased by her son, William Evan Griffiths, age 8, in 1975, her father George, in 1987 and her mother’s second husband, Rex Chaney in 2011.
A memorial service to celebrate Anne’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at First Congregational UCC, 54 S. Jackson Street, Janesville preceded by a visitation at 10 a.m. also at the Church. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Anne may make a gift in her name to the First Congregational UCC in Janesville, ECHO Food Pantry in Janesville or Agrace Hospice. The Griffiths family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
